Wayanad, Kerala — On January 9, 2026, the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation successfully hosted an intensive Kalaripayattu-based self-defense workshop for girls. This event is a core part of the Foundation’s long-standing Women Empowerment Program, which utilizes the techniques of the world’s oldest martial art to build confidence and safety.

Kalaripayattu Training for Modern Safety

The workshop hosted 35 students and 4 faculty members from Victorious Kidss Educares, Pune (Maharashtra). The participants traveled to Wayanad to experience authentic Kalari training, focusing on practical applications of the martial art for personal protection.

Under the expert supervision of K.F. Thomas Gurukkal, Director of the Foundation, the students were introduced to:

  • Meippayattu: Body conditioning and flexibility exercises.
  • Self-Defense Adavukal: Specific Kalaripayattu moves designed for quick neutralization of threats.
  • Martial Agility: Improving reflexes and situational awareness.

The session was supported by senior instructors M.S. Ganesh Gurukkal and Pranav K. Thomas, followed by a professional Kalaripayattu demonstration (performance) that showcased the lethal precision and grace of this ancient Indian martial art.

Why Kalari for Self-Defense?

The participants shared that the workshop provided more than just physical skills; it fostered a deep sense of mental resilience and self-assurance. In an era where personal security is paramount, the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation continues to bridge the gap between traditional martial arts and modern-day safety needs.
