Kalpetta, Wayanad – In a unique convergence of ancient martial tradition and modern civic duty, the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation (Kalpetta Division) organized a grand Kalarippayattu demonstration as part of the SVEEP 2026 (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative.
The event served as a powerful platform to educate the youth and the local community about the importance of participating in the democratic process.

A Fusion of Discipline and Democracy
The program was led by Ms. P. P. Archana, Assistant Collector of Wayanad, who has been at the forefront of election awareness activities in the district. Addressing the gathering, she highlighted how the discipline, focus, and strength required in Kalarippayattu are the same qualities needed to be a responsible citizen.
The demonstration itself was a masterclass in agility and tradition, led by the Foundation’s Managing Director, Thomas Gurukkal, alongside M. S. Ganesh Gurukkal and Pranav K. Thomas. Their expert guidance showcased the rich heritage of Kadathanadan Kalari while echoing a contemporary message: Our vote is our weapon for change.
Honoring the Young Guardians of Tradition
A highlight of the event was the medal ceremony, where Assistant Collector P. P. Archana honored the young participants who excelled in the Kalari demonstration. These medals represented not just physical prowess, but a commitment to the values of the nation.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Voters
During an interactive session, the Assistant Collector spoke directly to the children about the sanctity of the ballot.
“Every single vote acts as a building block for the nation’s future. While these children may not be of voting age yet, they are the influencers of today and the leaders of tomorrow.”
Inspired by the session, the students took a heartfelt pledge. Recognizing that “today’s children are tomorrow’s responsible citizens,” they promised to ensure that their parents, elder relatives, and neighbors exercise their right to vote. The energy was palpable as the children committed to taking this message of “100% Literacy, 100% Voting” back to their homes and neighborhoods.
