NSS Initiative Brings Ancient Martial Art to School Community

The NSS (National Service Scheme) unit of Mananthavady Government Victoria Higher Secondary School organized an inspiring Kalaripayattu workshop in collaboration with the renowned Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation. A total of 50 students and 3 teachers participated in this immersive session dedicated to self-defense and personal empowerment.
Kalaripayattu Workshop Highlights
Kalaripayattu, one of the world’s oldest martial arts originating from Kerala, India, served as the foundation for this educational initiative. The workshop focused on practical self-defense techniques that emphasize precision, leverage, and mental discipline over brute strength—making it particularly accessible for women and children.
The session was expertly led by:
- K.F. Thomas Gurukkal (Director, Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation)
- Ganesh Gurukkal
- Pranav K. Thomas
These master instructors guided participants through foundational movements, defensive strategies, and conditioning exercises that build confidence, flexibility, and situational awareness.
