The summer Kalaripayattu training camp organized by the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation has concluded on a high note, instilling physical strength, mental fortitude, and a sense of direction in the younger generation. Held in the historic land of Kadathanad, this comprehensive camp was fully sponsored and supported by the prominent philanthropic organization, the Buimerc India Foundation. It has set a grand benchmark for the physical, mental, and creative development of children.
The valedictory ceremony of this one-and-a-half-month-long free training camp was held amidst a grand gathering at the Vadakara Puthuppanam Kadathanad Kalari Sangham Auditorium.
Inauguration and Valedictory Ceremony
The concluding ceremony was formally inaugurated by Smt. K.K. Rema, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Vadakara. In her inaugural address, she emphasized that in today’s world, traditional martial arts like Kalaripayattu play a pivotal role in providing children with physical security and mental resilience. She added that beyond being just a martial art, such camps serve as excellent platforms to nurture socially responsible citizens.
The function was presided over by Sri. P.K. Shashi, Chairman of the Vadakara Municipality. Prominent personalities, including Indira Teacher (President of Oruma Residential Association), Padma Shri Meenakshi Amma Gurukkal (Patron of Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation), and Sri. K.F. Thomas Gurukkal (Managing Director of the Foundation), graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. Around 450 people, including socio-cultural leaders, parents, and well-wishers, attended the grand event.

Release of “Nerchuvadukal” Manuscript Magazine
A major highlight of the ceremony was the official release of “Nerchuvadukal” (The True Steps), a handwritten manuscript magazine meticulously curated by the camp students. Vadakara MLA K.K. Rema officially released the magazine by presenting the first copy to Padma Shri Meenakshi Amma Gurukkal. Packed with poems, stories, and drawings, the magazine stood as a testament to the multifaceted talents of the young participants.
Key Highlights and Activities of the Camp
The most defining feature of this one-and-a-half-month summer program was that it was completely free of cost. This allowed children from all socio-economic backgrounds to step into the world of martial arts and creative learning. Far from being limited to just Kalaripayattu, the camp integrated a wide-ranging syllabus aimed at the holistic personality development of the children.
The core activities and training modules included:

| Sl. No. | Training Activity | Objective and Significance |
| 1 | Kalaripayattu Training | Enhances physical fitness, self-confidence, and self-defense skills. |
| 2 | Archery (Ambeythu) | Improves concentration, focus, and goal-oriented mindset. |
| 3 | Drawing & Painting | Provides a colorful outlet for imagination and creativity. |
| 4 | Literary Camp | Fosters reading habits and refines creative writing skills. |
| 5 | Drama Training | Helps overcome stage fright and enhances communication skills. |
| 6 | Folk Songs (Naadan Paattu) | Connects children to the traditional roots and melodies of Kerala. |
| 7 | Organic Farming | Teaches the value of nature, soil, and sustainable living. |
| 8 | First Aid Training | Conducted in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross to handle emergencies. |
| 9 | Anti-Drug Classes | Builds a strong moral defense mechanism against societal vices. |
A Creative Stance Against Addiction: The Awareness Play
The camp took a strong stance against substance abuse, which is one of the biggest threats facing today’s youth. In addition to educational anti-drug seminars, the children themselves scripted and performed an Anti-Drug Awareness Play. The deeply moving performance captivated the audience, poignantly illustrating how substance abuse destroys individuals and tears families apart, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present.
The Leadership Behind the Success
Executing an initiative of this scale requires immense dedication and meticulous planning. Sri. K.F. Thomas Gurukkal, the Managing Director of the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation, served as the Chief Coordinator, flawlessly guiding the one-and-a-half-month-long event.
He was ably supported by Sri. M.S. Ganesh Gurukkal and Sri. Pranav K. Thomas, whose active participation and tireless efforts were instrumental in making this program a resounding success. Their collective dedication ensured that every child received personalized attention and that all activities proceeded seamlessly.
A Major Social Impact: Around 450 children across five different centers of the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation reaped the benefits of this extensive, entirely free summer training program.
Future Vision and the Crucial Role of Sponsorship
The ultimate mission of the Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation is to mold a future generation that is culturally grounded, physically fit, and morally conscious. In an era where children are increasingly confined to mobile screens and digital isolation, camps like this act as a catalyst, pulling them back to the soil, physical activity, and rich cultural traditions.
The Foundation remains deeply committed to implementing similar free programs for children across all sections of society in the future. However, executing such vast, high-quality programs entirely free of cost involves substantial financial overheads. Noble initiatives like these can only survive and scale through the generous sponsorship and corporate social responsibility (CSR) support of organizations like the Buimerc India Foundation.
The Kadathanadan Kalari Foundation extends a warm invitation to potential sponsors, philanthropists, and well-wishers to partner with us in this noble journey of sculpting a healthier, safer, and brighter tomorrow for our children.
